Bhubaneswar: A baby girl reportedly died hours after she was administered vaccines at a primary health centre (PHC) in Odisha’s Nabarangpur district.

The deceased child’s family along with the villagers staged a sit-in in front of the PHC and sought compensation.

Kiran Patra’s one-and-a-half-month-old daughter was administered four routine vaccines at the PHC at Patraput under Tentulikhunti block in Nabarangpur yesterday.

However, the baby girl died in the wee hours of today.

Blaming vaccination for the baby girl’s death, her family members along with the villagers of Patraput staged a dharna by keeping the body in front of the PHC and sought proper compensation.

On being informed, Nabarangpur district Public Health Officer Naba Kishore Behera, Tentulikhunti Additional Tehsildar Simanchal Patra and Tentulikhunti Community Health Centre (CHC) chief Somalei Prasad Panda among others reached Patraput and held discussions with the agitators.

The sit-in was called off in the evening after the authorities provided financial assistance from the Red Cross to deceased girl’s family.
