Infant dies hours after vaccination in Odisha’s Sundargarh, family lodges police complaint

Bhubaneswar: A four-month-old baby girl reportedly died hours after she was administered three vaccines and polio drops at an Anganwadi centre in Panposh area of Rourkela in Odisha’s Sundargarh district yesterday.

The deceased child’s father lodged a complaint in this regard with Raghunathpali police and sought action against the Anganwadi worker as well as the health worker, who had administered the vaccines.

As per the complaint, Kamela Kispotta’s four-month-old daughter was administered three vaccines and polio drops at an Anganwadi centre at Khariabahal slum of Panposh yesterday morning.

“The child cried profusely and slept soon after she was administered the vaccines. We rushed her to Rourkela Government Hospital as she did not wake up in the afternoon. She was later declared dead by the doctors at the hospital,” said Kamela in his complaint.

The police have launched an investigation in to the incident. “We are waiting for the postmortem report to know the exact reason behind the child’s death,” said a police officer.
