Injured PLFI commander dies

An area commander of the People’s Liberation Front of India (PLFI), who was admitted to the IGH Hospital in Odisha’s steel city here on Friday morning along with his bodyguard following an exchange of fire with police, succumbed to his injuries last evening, reports said.

The deceased has been identified as Jaidhar Gope (29) alias Mangra alias Lamboo, zonal area commander and a native of Tukitola village under Kolabira police station under Simdega district of Jharkhand.

Gope’s bodyguard Santu Badaik (35) of Jamdihi village under Tamdera police station of Gumla district of Jharkhand had also sustained bullet injuries during the encounter with the police at Mashrikudar-Erla road between Bisra and Bandhamunda road in the early hours on Friday.

However, the condition of Santu is stated to be stable, doctors at the hospital said.

According to the Rourkela SP Amitendra Nath Sinha, 55 cases, including 25 murder cases were pending against Gope in Jharkhand and one at Bisra police station while Santu has more than five cases against him in Jharkhand including two murder cases.
