Ink attack on 5T Secy: Accused’s wife justifies act

Bhubaneswar: The act of ink attack, on 5T Secretary VK Pandian, done today by one Bhaskar Sahu was claimed to be just and proper by the accused’s wife later in the day.

“My husband (Bhaskar) is a LIC agent and a social worker too. He always fights for the people and for the cause of development in Kanas area. I feel proud that he has done such an act. In the past few days, he agitated several times over the Daya river issue. He had approached even Satyabadi MLA Umakanta Samantaray and the District Collector for a solution to the perennial issue of Gangua Nala, but to no avail. People are facing drinking water problems in this area. He might become perturbed over the apathetic attitude of officials and political leaders. He is a non-political man and neither takes the side of the ruling BJD nor the Opposition BJP. He raises his voice for what is just,” said the woman.

5T Secretary VK Pandian and District Collector Samarth Verma were allegedly attacked with ink while attending an event at Utkalmani Gopabandhu Smruti Mahavidyalaya in Satyabadi of Puri district.

Police have detained the youth involved in the act and identified him as Bhaskar Sahu.

According to a source, the 5T Secretary and the District Collector were moving towards the stage after reaching the college, when ink was thrown at them. Bhaskar suddenly came nearer to the two officials from amidst a large crowd and committed the act, the source added.

The exact reason why the youth threw ink at the 5T Secretary has not been ascertained yet.
