Inter-state drug peddler gets 11-year jail term in Odisha

Cuttack, Mar 6:

A local court in Odisha’s Cuttack today sentenced an inter-state drug peddler to 11 years in prison for peddling marijuana.

Pronouncing the quantum of punishment, Third Additional District and Session judge Sanjay Kumar Sahoo sentenced Bikrant Kumar Singh to 11-year jail term and imposed a penalty of Rs 1, 00, 000, and in default will undergo an additional six-month jail term.

The convict hails from Begusarai district in Bihar. He was arrested from Cuttack on December 4, 2014 while on his way from Berhampur to Begusarai. Around 33 kg of cannabis stashed in a bag was found from his possession.

Central Excise Intelligence Department officials had arrested him under section 20 (b) of Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, 1985.
