Balasore: The suspension of internet services in Odisha's Balasore town, which was done following a clash between two groups, has been extended till 10 AM of June 22.

Curfew in the areas under Balasore municipality has been extended till midnight of June 21 with relaxation for the general public from 6 AM to 12 Noon to meet their daily needs. During this period all commercial establishments and routine services are allowed to operate, Balasore Collector said in a post on the 'X' handle.

The Odisha government has taken the step to avoid any untoward incident after the group clash, which had taken place near Sunahat here on June 17.

Previously clamped curfew restrictions in Balasore municipality area were today relaxed from 7.00 AM to 11.00 AM to allow people to purchase their essential commodities. During the relaxation period, all commercial establishments were allowed to open.

All educational institutions in the town will remain closed till June 21.

Notably, the clash between the two groups has left five persons, including a cop, injured. Around 15 vehicles were also damaged in the violent incident. The situation became worse as one of the groups resorted to stone pelting.

Alleged animal slaughter reportedly led to the clash between the two groups.

Subsequently, the local administration imposed curfew to bring the situation under control.

People will be allowed to travel only in cases of medical emergencies.
