Interstate job fraud racket busted in Odisha’s Balasore; nine arrested

Balasore: An interstate job fraud racket was busted in Balasore district today. Police have arrested nine persons in this connection, informed SP Sagarika Nath in a press conference held here.

The arrested are Biswaranjan Mohapatra from Khurda, Mohammed K Siddique from Visakhapatnam, Saina Parveen, Mushtaque Ali Khan and Mohammed Kamaruddin, the three from Jadupur locality on the outskirts of Bhubaneswar, Ajay Kumar, Rajkumar and Deepak Kumar, the three from Bihar and Bijendra Kumar from Bhubaneswar, the Superintendent of Police expressed.

According to the SP, as Combined Graduate Level (CGL) Examination was scheduled to be held today, the fraudsters had united some job aspirants from outside states and brought them in a bus to Balasore town in the morning. They had committed to provide duplicate question papers.

Later, acting on a tip-off in this regard, police raided the bus leading to the arrest of fraudsters.

Biswaranjan is the kingpin of the job fraud racket. He and his accomplices were mainly operating in the states like Odisha, Bihar, Jharkhand, Chhattisgarh and West Bengal. They were targeting jobseekers and posing themselves as close acquaintances of officials in organisations conducting examinations, the fraudsters were duping the job aspirants of around Rs 10 to 15 lakh from each.

The fraudsters were initially obtaining two signed cheques and original certificates from each jobseeker and then executing their game plans, divulging their ‘modus of operandi’ the SP stated.

Following the raid, police seized a private bus used in the crime, six four-wheelers, 15 mobile phones, three blank cheques, cash of Rs 22,500 and some educational certificates of job aspirants, including several incriminating instruments from the possession of the fraudsters.

Sahadevkhunta police have registered a case (No-303/2023) and launched a detailed probe.

Notably, Biswaranjan is a history-sheeter and several criminal cases are still pending against the kingpin at different police stations in Balugaon, Khurda, Nirakarpur, Ganjam and Aska.
