Intimacy on marriage pretext: Constable held in Odisha’s Balasore

Balasore: Remuna police yesterday arrested a constable for allegedly establishing physical intimacy with a girl on the pretext of marriage and later cheating her.

According to reports, accused cop Padman Saunt (30) of Koraput district, who was posted as constable at the Remuna police station here, had befriended the girl of Mayurbhanj two years ago.

Saunt, despite being married, developed love affair with the girl and had physical relation with her multiple times on the promise of marrying her. The victim was unaware of his marital status.

As the girl asked him to marry her, he started harassing and assaulting her. She lodged a complaint in this connection with the Remuna police on September 21. However, the accused had absconded by then.

Police had registered a case while investigation was underway. Acting on an information regarding the presence of the accused near Remuna Golei here yesterday, cops reached the spot and apprehended him. He was then forwarded to court after questioning at the police station.
