IOCL polypropylene unit to be commissioned in 2017-18: Pradhan

Indian Oil Corporation Limited’s (IOCL) Rs 3150 crore polypropylene project at Paradip in Odisha’s Jagatsinghpur district is expected to be commissioned in 2017-18, informed Dharmendra Pradhan, Union minister of state for Petroleum and Natural Gas, in a written reply in Rajya Sabha.

IOCL is setting up a 15 million metric tonne per annum (MMTPA) capacity refinery at Paradip at an estimated cost of Rs 34, 162 crore and has completed a detailed feasibility study for setting up a polypropylene plant, which is part of the proposed petrochemical complex conceived around the refinery. The unit will produce 7 lakh metric tonnes of polypropylene per annum.

Pradhan said IOCL is also planning to set up units for ethylene derivative project (ethylene glycol), paraxylene and purified terephthalic acid (PTA) and petcoke gasification based derivatives.
