IPL betting racket busted in Odisha’s Ganjam; 3 held

Aska: The police busted an IPL betting racket following an arrest of three persons in Aska area of Ganjam district today. Also, the police seized Rs 1,27,450 cash, five mobile phones and documents related to IPL from the possession of the three accused.

As per reports, the three persons, Ajay Gauda, Binod Parida and Krushna Swain from Pakela Palli village under Aska police limits were acting as agents and collecting money from people. They were investing the collected amount on IPL betting online. The Aska police forwarded the three accused to the court after arresting them.

A police official said the IPL betting could not be traced earlier as gamblers have been involved in online betting instead of assembling at one place physically. However, after getting some leads the police ream raided a place today and arrested the three accused. From Day 1 of the IPL matches, the punters were involved in the betting, said the police official.

Initially, three agents have been held and investigation is on to find out the involvement of other persons. In coming days more arrests will be made in connection with the case. The probe shows punters from Bhubaneswar and Vishakhapatnam are also involved in the betting racket, the police official informed.

In 2018, more than 10 people were involved for IPL betting and over Rs 5 lakh were seized.
