Bhubaneswar: Odisha's Rashmi Ranjan Swain, an IPS officer of 1991 batch, has been appointed as the in-charge Director General (DG) of Jammu & Kashmir Police.

A notification in this regard was issued by the Union Ministry of Home Affairs today.

"RR Swain, IPS (AGMUT:1991) presently posted as Special DG, CID, Jammu & Kashmir will also function as in-charge Director General of Police, Jammu & Kashmir in addition to his existing charge with effect from 01.11.2023 until further orders," the notification said.

He is likely to take charge as the top cop of the Jammu & Kashmir Police on October 31 as incumbent DGP Dilbag Singh would retire on the very day.

Swain, who hails from Rourkela, had earlier served as the Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) of Srinagar, Jammu, Ramban, Poonch, and Leh when terrorism was at its peak in the valley.

On June 15, he was appointed as the intelligence chief of J&K.
