IRBn constable held for duping female cop of Rs 3.5 lakh at Odisha’s Jeypore

Bhubaneswar: A constable of India Reserve Battalion (IRBn) was arrested at Jeypore town in Odisha’s Koraput district today on charges of duping a female cop of Rs 3.5 lakh on the promise of arranging excise sub-inspector job for the latter’s brother.

The accused has been identified as Durga Prasad Panda (35) of Nuasahi 4th Lane at Jeypore.

According to police, Panda had promised to arrange excise sub-inspector job for the brother of district police constable Reena Pathak in 2021. He had sought Rs 7 lakh from Pathak to arrange the job.

Pathak had allegedly given Rs 3.5 lakh to Panda in the first phase and promised to pay the balance amount soon after the appointment of her brother as an excise sub-inspector, police said.

Panda neither arranged the job nor did he return the amount to Pathak. The female cop had lodged a complaint in this regard with Jeypore Town police.

“We have arrested Panda and produced him in a local court after registering a case under Section 420 of the IPC,” said Jeypore Town police Inspector In-Charge (IIC) Ramani Ranjan Dalai.
