Malkangiri: Taking suo moto cognizance of alleged irregularities at the hostel of Maribeda Ashram School in Korukonda block of Malkangiri district, Odisha Lokayukta has sought report from the Collector, Project Administrator, ITDA, District Welfare Officer and Headmaster of the school.
Issuing a notice to them, the Lokayukta directed the officials to submit their replies within six weeks.
As many as 20 inmates of the hostel had on September 3 jumped the boundary wall of the school in the morning and walked 20 km to meet the Collector in Malkangiri town to apprise the official about the irregularities.
As they could not meet the Collector, they put forward their grievances before the District Welfare Officer. The students alleged that the rice meant for them was being sold by the teachers while the food at the hostel was sub-standard.
Holding a woman teacher responsible for the mismanagement, they said the hostel lacked toilets for which they had to stay amid unhygienic conditions.
