Is Odia singer Humane Sagar averse to singing Jagannath bhajans?

Bhubaneswar: Popular Odia singer Humane Sagar found himself in the middle of a controversy as music director Debashis Mallick alias Japani alleged that the vocalist has been refusing to sing bhajans of Lord Jagannath.

“I have been requesting Humane Sagar to sing Jagannath bhajans for the last five years. However, he has been rejecting my offers,” said Japani, who today filed a complaint against the singer at the Kharavela Nagar Police station alleging that Humane Sagar gave him death threats.

As per the allegations, Bablu, an associate of Humane Sagar, telephoned a singer namely Tapu Nayak when he was with Japani. The caller threatened to kill Japani if he came to Cuttack.

“I got a call from Humane Sagar’s associate. He threatened to kill Japani. He did so as Japani had requested the singer multiple times to lend voice for bhajans,” said Tapu Nayak.

On the other hand, Humane Sagar refuted the allegations levelled against him saying that he has done no such thing.

“I have no such intention of not singing bhajans of Lord Jagannath. Perhaps, my turn is yet to come. I would love to sing bhajans. It’s a misconception that I don’t like to sing bhajans. Such speculations have pained me. I will never hurt religious sentiments of people,” he said.

Years ago, Japani at a function in Dhenkanal had told the audience to boycott Humane Sagar and his programmes over the latter’s refusal for singing Jagannath bhajans.
