Bhubaneswar: The Odisha capital has received the Best Smart City award at the India Smart Cities Awards Contest-2022.

This was revealed by the Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) in its Twitter (X) handle today.

The Odisha capital won the award in East Zone category having less than 10 lakh population, said the BMC in a twitter post.

The Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs (MoHUA) announced as many as 64 awards under the India Smart Cities Award Contest-2022 today.

As many as 64 awards have been announced under several categories including project, innovation, Covid innovation, best city and state, said Union Housing and Urban Affairs Minister Hardeep Singh Puri.

“India Smart City Awards celebrate excellence, promoting learning and sharing of best practices. The 64 awards announced today are a testament to remarkable progress across 100 smart cities,” said MoHUA Secretary Manoj Joshi in a twitter post.

Madhya Pradesh received the Best State Award while Chandigarh bagged the Best Union Territory award at India Smart Cities Awards Contest (ISAC), 2022.

At least seven cities of Madhya Pradesh are now developing 779 multi-sectoral projects worth Rs 15,696 crore for providing better facilities to the people. Chandigarh won the award for its initiatives like ‘Cycle 4 Change’ and ‘Walkable City’. The Union Territory has also adapted innovation under the Smart Cities Mission, sources said.
