Bhubaneswar: Odisha Health Director Dr Niranjan  Mishra has cautioned people to isolate themselves and follow strict Covid-appropriate behaviour if they develop flu-like symptoms. Addressing mediapersons today, he shared that the Government is conducting a mock drill for Covid preparedness and looking into infrastructural readiness like provision of adequate beds, ventilators, oxygen cylinders, testing facilities etc in all districts. Besides, awareness drive has started to make the public alert and caution them against lax behaviour as cases are already on the rise. People are being asked to wear masks, avoid crowded places, wash hands regularly and go for mandatory tests if they develop flu-like symptoms. If tested positive, they must isolate themselves and stick to the standard safety protocol and Covid-appropriate behaviour.

Stressing on the 5T plan which includes testing, tracing, treatment, teamwork and tracking, Mishra said people must remain vigilant as number of positive cases are showing a rising trend. On being asked about the possibility of lockdowns and dedicated Covid hospitals, he informed that the Government has not yet decided in this regard as cases are around 100 as of now. Currently, vaccines are being provided in private hospitals and there will be a mass drive as and when the Centre decides. "It appears like a small wave and we still don't know how severe it is. The Government will come up with a plan as per needs of the situation. But people must stick to basic safety protocol," he warned.

As of now, there are 629 active cases of Covid-19 in the State.
