Jagamohana repair to be completed by June, ASI tell Odisha HC

Odisha Sun Times Bureau
Cuttack, Nov 17:

Repair of Jagamohana (prayer hall adjoining the sanctum sanctorum) of the Sri Jagannath temple in Odisha’s Puri will be completed by June next year.

This was stated by the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) in an affidavit before the Orissa High Court during a hearing on a PIL on Jagamohana repair.

The ASI informed the High Court that the design for the repair has been provided by IIT Madras.

The ASI Superintendent who appeared in person at the court today briefed it about the progress made in the repair work.

However, Sri Jagannath Temple Administration (SJTA) which was also supposed to submit a similar affidavit in the court today over the progress of the repair work failed to do so.

The division bench of the court has ordered for submission of affidavit on the progress made in the repair work in detail on November 21.

The court has again asked the ASI Superintendent to appear before it in person on the aforementioned date.

It may be recalled here that the court on November 7 had expressed concern and resentment over the inordinate delay plaguing the repair of the Jagamohana.

The court had then directed ASI and the SJTA to submit latest status report of the repair through a fresh affidavit on November 17.
