Bhubaneswar: City-based social organisation Jai Odisha today launched ‘Sesha Saathi’– an initiative to help carry the body of any deceased person belonging to a poor and needy family and to cremate it in Satya Nagar crematorium here.
The service was inaugurated in a function by Bhubaneswar-Cuttack twin city Police Commissioner Soumendra Priyadarshi, who graced the occasion as Chief Guest. Addressing a gathering on this occasion Priyadarshi appreciated the initiative of Jai Odisha.
“Being inspired by Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik, we started the voluntary service. Amalgam Steel Private Limited – a steel-making company of the State has supported the initiative and provided a vehicle, which will be used as a dead body carrier. The vehicle has been named as Sesha Saathi and Jai Odisha will use it to carry bodies from different places of the Capital City free of charge. Families having a financial crunch to bear the cremation expenses can avail this facility by contacting Jai Odisha on mobile number-9853220023,” president of the NGO Rudra Narayan Samantaray said.
Samantaray termed this initiative as a small effort made by the NGO during the last journey of a person. “We consider Odisha as one family and serving a needy member of our family during his last journey is our social as well as moral responsibility,” the Jai Odisha chief further said.
