The All Odisha Jail Employees Association (AOJEA) had given a call for hunger strike demanding grade pay parity for warder, head warder and chief warder posts with that of constable, havildar and havildar major serving in the police department.

As a mark of protest against the discrimination, jail employees were wearing black badges since October 20.

Since the government failed to take any action to fulfill their demands, the employees resorted to hunger strike.
