Jalaka river breaches danger mark in Odisha’s Balasore

Balasore: Following incessant rainfall in the upper catchment area due to the low pressure, Jalaka river has breached danger mark at Mathani in Basta block of Odisha’s Balasore district.

As per latest report, the river was flowing at 5.60 metre mark against the danger level of 5.50 metre. Several panchayats of Basta and Sadar blocks are likely to be affected if the water level continues to rise.

On the other hand, the Well Marked Low Pressure Area over south Chhattisgarh & adjoining south Odisha now lies over south Chhattisgarh & neighbourhood. The associated cyclonic circulation extends upto 7.6 km above mean sea level tilting southwestwards with height. It is likely to move west northwestwards during the next 2 days.

Moreover,a Low Pressure Area is likely to form over north and adjoining Central Bay of Bengal around 11th September.

The Regional Meteorological Centre has forecasted rainfall for several districts of Odisha in this connection.

* Light to moderate rain or thundershower very likely to occur at a few places over the districts of Odisha (valid from 0830 hrs IST of 08.09.2021 up to 0830 hrs IST of 09.09.2021).

* Thunderstorm with lightning very likely to occur at one or two places over the districts of Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapara, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Puri, Khurda, Nayagarh, Ganjam, Gajapati, Bargarh, Jharsuguda, Sundargarh, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Angul, Dhenkanal (valid from 0830 hrs IST of 09.09.2021 up to 0830 hrs IST of 10.09.2021).

* Heavy rainfall very likely to occur at one or two places over the districts of Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Deogarh, Sambalpur, Sonepur, Bolangir, Kalahandi, Balasore (valid from 0830 hrs IST of 10.09.2021 up to 0830 hrs IST of 11.09.2021).

* Heavy rainfall very likely to occur at one or two places over the districts of Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Angul, Dhenkanal, Balasore, Cuttack, Koraput, Malkangiri (valid from 0830 hrs IST of 11.09.2021 up to 0830 hrs IST of 12.09.2021).

Under the influence of Well Marked Low Pressure Area over south Chhattisgarh & adjoining south Odisha, squally weather with surface wind speed reaching 40-50 kmph very likely over Northwest Bay of Bengal and adjoining West-Central Bay of Bengal off Odisha coast. Fishermen are advised not to venture into the sea over Northwest Bay of Bengal and adjoining West Central Bay of Bengal off Odisha coast during next 24 Hrs.
