Janta Curfew: 20 lakh shops in Odisha to remain shut on Sunday  

Bhubaneswar: Around 20 lakh shops and other business establishments across the state will remain closed on March 22 (Sunday) to extend support to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s call for Janta Curfew in the wake of coronavius outbreak.

In response to the clarion call of PM Modi, around seven crores traders across the country under the banner of Confederation of All India Traders (CAIT) will down their shutters on Sunday. The CAIT took the decision after consultation with traders’ associations in all states.  Around 40 crore employees of traders will stay indoors on the day.

Accordingly, 20 lakh shops and other business establishments across the state will remain shut on Sunday, informed Sudhakar Panda, Federation of All Odisha Traders Association (FAOTA).

“Around 194 associations are under FAOTA. All of them have been asked to down their shutters on Sunday Shops selling groceries, vegetables and meat, chicken and eggs will remain closed,” he said.

However, petrol pump and medicine shops will remain open. Minimum number of employees will be on duty for filling at petrol pumps, said Utkal Petroleum Dealers Association general secretary Sanjay Lath.
