Japanese encephalitis claims six infants in a week in Odisha’s M’kangiri

As many as six infants have died of Japanese encephalitis in the last seven days in Palkunda village in Odisha’s Malkangiri district, reports said.

While one death was reported this afternoon at the district headquarters hospital here, at least 12 infants have died of the mosquito-borne disease this year in Malkangiri district, reports added.

Currently, several infants afflicted with the disease are undergoing treatment at the district headquarters hospital here. As many as 14 infants whose condition was stated to be serious were shifted to MKCG Medical College and Hospital at Berhampur for better treatment this afternoon, hospital sources said.

Unofficial sources claim that 20-30 infants die of the disease every year in Malkangiri district.
