Japanese Encephalitis (JE) claimed lives of two more children in Odisha’s Malkangiri district today taking the death toll due to the vector-borne disease in the district to 78 in 51 days.
A two-year-old girl Sushila Padiami of Daniguda village under Malkangiri block and a four-year-old Laxma Madkami of Gamphakonda village under Kalimela block succumbed to the disease while undergoing treatment at the district headquarters hospital here, reports said.
Deceased Sushila’s elder brother who is also afflicted with the disease is undergoing treatment at the hospital and his condition is stated to be critical, reports added.
According to reports six children afflicted with the disease are undergoing treatment at the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) of the hospital.
