Worried about the increasing number of jaundice cases in Bhubaneswar, awareness vans will ply in the Odisha capital on Saturday to spread ways to prevent the disease.
These vehicles will go around the city, especially the affected areas to spread awareness about the disease.
On Friday, a high level meeting headed by Housing and Urban development minister Puspendra Singh Deo and Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) officials discussed the situation.Various awareness programmes for jaundice prevention has been decided.
The minister has ordered sealing of open wells found contaminated after drinking water samples tested positive by public health department.
The department has been ordered to test water samples in affected areas will be tested twice every day.
Ananta Narayan Jena, Mayor appealed to the public to drink only pipe water. He said that stand points of drinking will be set up in the affected areas.
Notably, as many as 12 persons were found to be afflicted with jaundice after the blood samples of 30 persons belonging to Jharana Sahi of ward no-53 in the city tested positive for the infection on April 7. While, six cases of jaundice were detected from Damana this month.
A core group has been set up by BMC to fight jaundice in the city which includes public health officials, BMC health officials and others . This group will actively work towards curbing jaundice in Jharana Sahi, according to reports.
