As per reports, 482 out-patients who visited the district headquarters hospital yesterday, blood test was conducted on 57 patients and 15 new patients were identified taking the tally to 2008.

While the official data put the death toll at 17, unofficially it is pegged around 100.

Specialist Pranay Verma of National Centre for Disease Control (NCDC), who is stationed at Sambalpur, is also working on another set of statistics today. He will submit the final report to the district collector and state government.

The spread of jaundice which started way back in May 2014 took epidemic proportions two months later around July 2014.

The representatives from Odisha and Union government have visited the site and reviewed situation many times. A team of these experts are already stationed in the western Odisha town to review the situation and prepare statistics.

Another central government team that visited the town on Dec 26 submitted its report to state government without meeting any patient or visiting any patients ward. The team returned back within two hours after conducting meetings at the CDMO and collector’s office.

So far, the preparedness of the government to face the situation has been limited to quick and directionless analysis while the disease continues to finds more victims everyday, alleged the  denizens.
