Jawan martyred, another injured in Maoist ambush in Odisha

Malkangiri: A District Voluntary Force (DVF) Jawan was killed and another sustained critical injuries in an encounter with Maoists in Bonda ghati area under Khairput block in Odisha’s Malkangiri district today.

The injured security personnel was airlifted to a hospital in Vishakhapatnam for treatment.

According to reports, a team of security personnel of Special Operations Group (SOG) and DVF led by Malkangiri SP Khilari Rishikesh launched a combing operation in the wee hours on Wednesday after getting input about Maoists activities in a forest near Patnaguda village in Bonda ghati area.

After spotting a Maoist camp at the forest, the security forces opened fire at the extremists. During exchange of fire, one Jawan was killed and another was injured.

One Maoist is suspected to have been killed in the ambush.

The police seized one SLR and 303 rifle from the spot.

Sources said that the encounter is underway.
