Jaya Ekadashi Vrat Today, 1 February 2023: Fast/Upvas Breaking Time, Rituals

Jaya Ekadashi is observed on the ‘ekadashi’ tithi during the Shukla Paksha in the month of ‘Magh’ in the Hindu calendar.

The festival is celebrated in the honour of Lord Vishnu. Devotees of Lord Vishnu keep fast on this day.

Jaya Ekadashi 2023 Date: February 1, Wednesday.

Tithi Begins: January 31, 2023 11:54 AM.

Tithi Ends: February 01, 2023 2:02 PM.

Parana (Fast Breaking) Time: February 02, 7:10 AM – February 02, 9:22 AM.

Rituals: Devotees observe vrat on this day, without eating or drinking anything. They wake up early in the morning and take bath.

They keep fast from the sunrise of ekadashi till the sunrise of dwadashi tithi.

It is advised to keep feelings of anger, lust and greed away during the fasting.

The observer of this vrat offers foods to Brahmins on the dwadashi tithi and then breaks fast.

The vrat observer should not sleep during the night and sing bhajans of Lord Vishnu.

Those who are unable to observe complete fasting, can keep partial fast by consuming milk and fruits.

Applying oil on body is not advised on this day.

Lord Vishnu is worshipped with complete dedication on Jaya Ekadashi. A small idol of Lord Vishnu is kept at the place of worship while devotees offer sandalwood paste, sesame seeds, fruits, lamp and dhoop to the Lord.

Reciting ‘Vishnu Sahastranaam’ and ‘Narayan Stotra’ is considered auspicious on this day.
