Bhubaneswar: Odisha Vigilance today arrested Sangeeta Mohapatra, Junior Engineer (JE), Khurdha Block, for allegedly demanding and accepting bribe of Rs 50,000 from a contractor in her office.

As per reports, the JE had demanded the amount from the contractor for passing final bills for release of payment in connection with a development work. Acting on a complaint filed by the contractor, the anti-corruption agency laid a trap and caught Mohapatra while she was taking the bribe.

The amount was recovered and seized from her possession.

After the arrest, simultaneous searches were conducted at two places belonging to Mohapatra over the angle of possession of properties disproportionate to her known sources of income.

The Vigilance has registered a case against Mohapatra while further investigation was underway.
