JE sit-up row: Patnagarh MLA’s bail plea hearing deferred   

Bhubaneswar: The Bhubaneswar Additional District Judge (ADJ) Court today deferred the hearing of arrested Patnagarh MLA Saroj Meher’s bail plea to July 5.

The MLA, who was arrested for forcing a junior engineer to do sit-up over poor quality road construction work, was later sent to Jharpada jail.

During the court proceedings, Meher fought his own case and presented his side since lawyers are on strike. On the other hand, his opponents, including PWD Junior Engineer Jaykant Sabar and his wife presented their sides. The court also asked the Jharpada jail authorities to take decision on the MLA’s treatment.

Earlier in the day, the legislator was shifted to Bhubaneswar from Patnagarh jail for hearing of his bail plea.

Worth mentioning, the PWD Junior Engineer was forced to do sit-up by the MLA in Patnagarh area for poor quality road construction work. The incident came to fore after a video of the same went viral on social media on June 6.
