Jeweller looted of gold, silver ornaments worth over Rs 5 Lakh in Odisha’s Nabarangpur

Nabarangpur: Some unidentified miscreants looted a jeweller of gold and silver ornaments worth more than Rs 5 lakh by attacking him with sharp weapons near Bhimaguda village of Dhodra panchayat under Jharigaon block in Nabarangpur district, today.

The victim man was identified as Chandan Kumar Soni, who is a native of Haraj village in Motihari district of neighbouring Bihar. He used to reside in Nabarangpur district and run a jewellery shop.

According to a source, Chandan has been residing in Bhimaguda village for around the last five months. His retail outlet is located at Dhodra. As usual, he was returning home after closing his shop, along with his 5-year-old son Piyush and a bag containing gold and silver ornaments.

Four miscreants intercepted him near Bhimaguda and attacked with sharp weapons leaving him severely injured. They took away around 45 grams of gold and 3 kilograms of silver ornaments from him.

Chandan was rescued by some locals and admitted to sub-divisional hospital (SDH) in Umerkote. Later, he was shifted to the district headquarters hospital in Nabarangpur town after his condition deteriorated.

On being informed, Jharigaon police station IIC Dambarudhar Pradhan reached the health facility and launched a probe, which is underway.
