According to reports, businessman Nirmala Rana, owner of New Rana Jewellery in Thakurmunda Bazar in the district, arrived at his shop this morning accompanied by one of his employees with a bag containing gold ornaments of around 250 gm and silver ornaments worth over lakhs of rupees.
He found the shop’s front yard dirty and sent the employee to call a sweeper in order to clear the garbage.
In the meantime, Rana found notes of Rs 100, Rs 50 and Rs 10 denominations lying on ground after two youths left a nearby bookstore.
While the duo was leaving on a motorcycle, he tried to draw their attention without having an inkling that he was slipping into their trap.
As a humanitarian gesture, Rana picked up the currencies keeping the jewellery bag aside. The scheming youths swooped on the bag and vanished in a jiffy, by the time he could decode the trick.
Police was informed about the incident and were probing into the loot.
