‘Jewellery shops in Odisha Capital will be monitored for Covid compliance’

Bhubaneswar: In view of Dhanteras, the Commissionerate Police made elaborate arrangements in Odisha Capital to ensure adherence to the Covid guidelines. This was informed by Bhubaneswar DCP Umashankar Dash today. Dhanteras will be celebrated on November 13.

“We will ensure the guidelines issued by the Special Relief Commissioner (SRC), Odisha are followed in Bhubaneswar during Dhanteras. Discussions were held with gold jewellery shop owners in the city in connection with this. Social distancing, mask wearing and adherence to the guidelines will be ensured with deployment of additional police personnel in areas where jewellery shops are located,” said the Bhubaneswar DCP.

If there is any violation of Covid guidelines or increase in the number of people at a jewellery shop, the Commissionerate Police may take action and seal the concerned shop temporarily, he added.

On being asked about the crackdown on firecracker shops and godowns in the city, Dash said such places are being checked and awareness is being created among people not to sale and use the firecrackers.

Earlier in the day, the police seized two and half trucks of firecrackers from two godowns in Jatni area and investigation is on, he informed.

The Odisha government last week banned the sale and use of firecrackers to check air pollution so that conditions of Covid patients do not aggravate. The ban comes into effect from November 10 to 30.
