Jewellery showroom loot: 1 of 8-member robbery gang nabbed from Bihar

Jajpur: In a major crackdown, a team of police today nabbed a person from Bihar in connection with the much-debated jewellery showroom loot that had taken place at Jajpur Road locality in this district at around 1.40 pm on May 15.

The arrested was identified as 26-year-old Rupesh Kumar, the son of Bimal Singh from Gauriya Chaman village of Warispur under Bhagwanpur police limits in Vaishali district of Bihar.

According to Jajpur SP Vinit Agrawal, Rupesh, an accused in the loot incident, had camped in Balasore town along with another accomplice two days prior to committing the crime. The two decamped with the looted ornaments on the intervening day and went elsewhere in a car. Rupesh will be forwarded to court, the SP said while briefing mediapersons here.

“A dacoity case was earlier registered at Jajpur Road police station and multiple teams were formed to carry out an investigation into the armed robbery, which is underway. During a detailed probe, it was ascertained that eight persons were involved in the crime. Three motorcycles used in committing the crime have been recovered by the police team, including some documents and mobile phones. Around 10 to 11 kilograms of gold ornaments were looted,” the SP stated.

It is pertinent to mention, police previously issued photographs of at least three of the accused.

Even as the dacoits had taken away computer hard disks of all CCTVs installed in the showroom with the intention to escape the eyes of the police, except only one such non-volatile data storage device, the probe team could collect the photographs from available video footage.

After tracking the real-time occurrence of the jewellery showroom heist, police issued the photographs to accumulate further information and clues about the gang of robbers, who were armed with pistols and other weapons. They were talking among themselves in Hindi.
