Jharsuguda bypoll: Nomination papers of 10 candidates declared valid after scrutiny

Jharsuguda: Following scrutiny of the nomination papers previously filed by as many as 14 candidates belonging to different political parties and the independent ones for bypoll to Jharsuguda Assembly constituency, the candidatures of at least 10 such contestants were declared valid today.

An official source said that a total of 22 sets of nominations were filed by the MLA candidates and the papers of four of them were summarily rejected owing to various reasons.

The papers of candidates fielded by the three major political parties in Odisha – Dipali Das (BJD), Tankadhar Tripathy (BJP) and Tarun Pandey (Congress) – are valid. The independent and other partisan candidates, whose candidatures were declared valid, include Janma Rohidas, Manish Sharma, Mahendra Patnaik, Bijay Jalan, Gyanendra Behera, Bhubaneswar Gardia and Mahendra Luha, the senior administrative official clarified.

Notably, valid candidatures can be withdrawn by the eligible contestants on April 24 (Monday).

Bypoll to the Jharsuguda Assembly segment was necessitated due to the high-profile murder of former Health Minister Naba Kishore Das. The date of polling has been scheduled on May 10.
