Jharsuguda medical officer caught taking bribe

Jharsuguda: The District Medical Officer-cum-Superintendent of DHH of Jharsuguda was caught red-handed by Vigilance officials while taking bribe from a contractor here today.

Sources said DMO Usharani Das had demanded Rs 5,000 from  an electrician, Debanand Barik, to pass a pending bill. With no option left, Barik had informed the Vigilance about the matter.

Acting on the complaint, the anti-corruption officials laid a trap and conducted a raid on the medical officer's office at the district headquarters hospital (DHH) here. Das was caught red-handed while she was accepting the bribe from the complainant.

Later, the Vigilance team raided the DMO’s house on charges of amassing property disproportionate to her known sources of income.
