Job fraud racket that duped 200 job seekers busted in Odisha; 2 held

Bhubaneswar: The Economic Offences Wing (EOW) of Odisha Police busted a big job fraud racket with arrest of two scammers and seizure of many incriminating documents including Lok Seva Bhawan’s letters and seals from possession of the accused persons.

The accused persons were Rajkishore Pattnaik, a resident of Gujudiha village under Kamarda police limits in Balasore district and Arun Mohanty, a native of Narasinghapur village under Bhograi PS in Balasore district. They were booked under sections 420/467/468/471/120-B of IPC.

The duo is accused to have duped at least 200 job seekers on pretext of giving them jobs in government sectors in Odisha.

They were arrested based on a case registered on the allegation of one of the victims Kumudini Sahoo, a resident of Bhubaneswar.

As per the allegation, Rajkishore Pattnaik, Arun Mohanty and Bhawani Shankar Das had duped the woman of an amount of Rs 8.15 lakh for arranging a Government job by showing her forged documents like appointment letters, logo and seals of Govt of Odisha.

Accused Rajkishore Pattnaik assured the complainant of a Govt. job i.e. Clerk at Raj Bhawan for a monthly salary of Rs.34,000/- and demanded Rs.6 lakh for the purpose. She paid around Rs. 2 lakh as advance but after getting money Rajkishore Pattnaik started avoiding her. Then she came in contact with accused Arun Mohanty and Bhawani Shankar Das. Accused Arun Mohanty assured her to arrange a job for her within a week and demanded Rs.7 lakh for that. She paid the amount but could not get any job, the EOW said in a release today.

The scammers also cheated another person namely Sushant Kumar Muduli of Rs.1.05 lakh alluring him for the post of school peon, Deepak Kumar Nayak of Rs.4.50 lakh for the post of peon at Khordha Collectorate, Dipu Biswal of Rs 2 lakh for the job of peon in Raj Bhawan in Bhubaneswar.

The EOW during search of residences of both the accused seized hundreds of forged documents like Govt appointment letters, joining letters and seals of Lok Seva Bhawan, hundreds of resumes, marksheets, application forms and fake appointment letters of candidates for different posts like peon, clerk, fireman, security etc. in different government departments like Raj Bhawan, Education department, Energy Department, Secretariat, Traffic Police, Excise Department, Kendriya Vidyalaya, Income Tax Department etc.

During investigation, it was revealed that they have duped hundreds of job aspirants of Odisha showing them forged/fabricated Government letters/ Logo/ Seal/ selection list etc.
