Bhubaneswar: In a major setback to Congress, Odisha Pradesh Mahila Congress president Sumitra Jena quit the party today.
Expressing discontent over being denied a party ticket, Jena lashed out at Odisha Pradesh Congress chief Niranjan Patnaik for his dynasty politics and restricting women empowerment in politics.
“I was a ticket aspirant for Bhadrak, but the ticket went to someone who does not even have primary membership in the party,” she stated in a press conference.
Jena ended her 12-year-old alliance with the grand party, and berated the OPCC president for not taking action against the miscreants who manhandled her at a rally in Odisha capital, a few days ago.
Congress fielded Nalinikant Mohanty from Bhadrak assembly seat against BJD’s Sanjeev Mallick and BJP’s Pradeep Naik.
