Jindal Steel and Power Ltd (JSPL) is all geared up to achieve its full capacity of 6 MTPA at its Angul plant by 2016, Chairman Navin Jindal said on Tuesday

While apprising the Odisha Chief Secretary Jugal Kishore Mohapatra about the progress made so far on this front, Jindal said JSPL has already completed 2.5 metric tonne per annum (MTPA) capacity addition in the first phase of its proposed 6 MT per annum greenfield integrated steel project at Angul.

Besides, the company is all set to ink a MoU with the Odisha government for a Coal-to-Liquid (CTL) project at Angul later this year, Jindal revealed to media persons here.

Commenting on the applicability of the restriction on direct sale of extracted coal in our country only for private players, he urged the chief secretary to provide a level playing field in line with the other nations, where no such restriction exists.

“When the public sector Coal India is allowed to sell coal, then why not the private players?” he asked.

In India, the coal block policy allows the coal mined for end-use by various industries like cement, power, iron and steel etc but not its direct sale, Jindal added.
