Jumbo dies of suspected electrocution in Odisha’s Sundargarh

Rourkela, Jan 25:

A dead elephant was recovered from a forest in Odisha’s Sundargarh district this morning.

According to reports, the pachyderm was found dead near Garada village under Bisra forest range in Nuagaon block.

The locals spotted the dead tusker and informed the forest officials. Bisra Forest Range officer accompanied by other forest and electic department officials rushed to the spot and recovered the body.

The villagers said that a jumbo herd had entered into Garada village yesterday in search of food. Of the group, a female elephant came in contact with live electric wire while trying to pull down mango tree branches.

The officials have begun an investigation into the incident.
