A tusker was electrocuted to death at a mango garden near Giridhar Prasad under Hindol forest range in Odisha's Dhenkanal district late on Sunday night.

According to sources, the elephant was trying to split branches from a mango tree but came in contact with a live electric wire passing over the plant.

The pachyderm was found dead on the spot. On being informed about the incident by locals, Forest department officials rushed to the spot and started investigating into the matter, sources said.
