Skanda Sashti holds great significance among Tamil Hindus as a day dedicated to the worship of Lord Murugan.

To seek the blessings of the deity and attain a happy and prosperous life, devotees observe fasting on this auspicious day.

Sashti is observed on the sixth day of the Krishna Paksha (waning phase of the moon) in each Hindu calendar month.

During Sashti, devotees perform certain rituals to please Lord Murugan. Many choose to observe either a partial or full fast.

The fasting commences at sunrise and concludes on the following day after offering prayers to the Sun God.

For those who prefer a partial fast, consuming fruits is acceptable.

Individuals with health concerns can observe the fast by having a single meal during the day.

As part of the rituals, it is strictly forbidden to consume non-vegetarian food and alcohol.
