Junior Engineer gets 2 yrs RI in graft case in Odisha

Bhawanipatna: Kalahandi Special Vigilance Court Tuesday sentenced a Junior Engineer of Lift Irrigation department to two years rigorous imprisonment (RI) after convicting him on charges of accepting bribe.

Special Vigilance Judge Chittaranjan Das sentenced S Rajaya Reddy, the then Junior Engineer of Sinapalli in the Lift Irrigation department to two years rigorous imprisonment after convicting for accepting a bribe of Rs 5,000 in 2013.

In addition to the sentence, the court has imposed a fine of Rs 2,000 on Reddy.

As per reports, on August 16 in 2013, Reddy had sought a bribe of Rs 5,000 one Amalu Meher of Kapasi village under Sinapalli block of Nuapada district for providing an estimate-cum-project report under Biju Krushak Kalyan Yojana.

Reddy was caught red handed by Vigilance department sleuths while he was accepting the bribe from Meher.

Currently, Reddy is serving as a Junior Engineer at Rairangpur in the Lift Irrigation department.
