Junior engineer under Vigilance scanner for accepting bribe of Rs 10K

Sambalpur: A team of Odisha Vigilance sleuths today arrested a junior engineer for accepting a bribe at Batemura of Badagaon panchayat under Maneswar block in Sambalpur district.

The engineer identified as Pranati Sahu was apprehended while demanding and accepting a bribe of Rs 10,000 from a Gramasathi to hand over Measurement Books and other relevant documents with regard to road works executed by him under Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme (MGNREGS) in Maneswar block.

The entire bribe amount has been recovered from the possession of Sahu and later seized.

Following the arrest, simultaneous searches were carried out at three different locations associated with Sahu in Angul and Sambalpur districts, which are underway.

A Sambalpur Vigilance PS case (No-17, dated-20.06.2023, U/s-7 PC (Amendment) Act, 2018 has been registered in this connection. “A detailed probe is in progress against Sahu,” a senior official said.
