Bhawanipatna: The Dharamgarh Additional District & Sessions Judge Court today sentenced a person to 10 years of imprisonment for attacking a woman with acid in Kalampur area of Odisha's Kalahandi district last year.

The court also imposed a penalty of Rs 1 lakh on the convict, identified as Parsuram Majhi, and directed the district Collector to pay Rs 3 lakh to the victim for rehabilitation.

In January last year, Majhi had thrown acid on Debanti Bibhar, a 22-year-old student, while she was on her way to computer class at Kalampur.

Parsuram had one-sided love affair with the girl. He committed the act after she rejected his proposal, reports said.
