KALIA: Odisha landless farmers to get financial assistance on Feb 15

Bhubaneswar: Financial assistance under the Krushak Assistance for Livelihood and Income Augmentation (KALIA) scheme will be provided to landless farmers of Odisha on February 5, informed State Agriculture Department’s Principal Secretary Saurabh Garg today.

An amount of Rs 5,000 each will be credited to the bank accounts of around 4-5 lakh landless farmers on February 5 through Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) mode, said Garg.

Later on February 22, financial assistance of the same amount will be provided to around 14 lakh small and marginal farmers of the state, he added.

Worth mentioning, 12.45 lakh beneficiaries of the KALIA scheme have already received their first installment of financial assistance on January 25.

Under the KALIA scheme, financial assistance of Rs 25,000 per farm family over five seasons will be provided to small and marginal farmers so that farmers can purchase inputs like seeds, fertilizers, pesticides and use assistance towards labour and other investments. This scheme is implemented from current Rabi Season 2018-19 onwards.

KALIA scheme brings under its umbrella 92% of cultivators of the state and almost all needy landless cultivators, who can avail the benefits of this scheme through Direct Benefit Transfer Mode.
