Kalyan mandaps sealed in Odisha capital for flouting norms

Bhubaneswar: The Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) today started sealing kalyan mandaps lacking necessary approvals in the city.

A joint team of the BMC and Bhubaneswar Development Authority (BDA) carried out the sealing process, which commenced with sealing of a kalyan mandap in Saheed Nagar here. As many as 80 kalyan mandaps will be sealed during the drive for various factors like functioning without building plan approval, trade licence, non-payment of property tax and inadequate parking facility.

In the initial phase, the BMC authority sealed eight Mandaps in its three zones.

North zone – RISHI Resort, Patia; Pandit Nilakantha College of Library & information Science Mandap, Samantapur; Atmaram Mandaps, Gajapati Nagar; JB Marriage Mandap, Near Sainik School Square; RCM Market Complex, Press Chhak

South West Zone – Sai Garden at Khandagiri and Chandan Lodge at Baramunda.

South East Zone- Palladiyum Court Yard Kalyan Mandap, Saheed Nagar

The BMC had set a deadline of January 31 for the kalyan mandaps for rectifying the irregularities. Notably, the order for sealing the kalyan mandaps was issued by the BMC after it found that more than 80 percent kalyan mandaps and marriage halls in the city have failed to comply with the Government order.

BMC had served notice to 94 mandaps while 14 of them complied with the civic body’s notice.
