Cuttack: After the recent encounter of notorious criminal Manoj Maharana alias Mangu on the September 15 night, a team of Commissionerate Police today arrested six of his accomplices in connection with an incident of dacoity done by the anti-socials in Kandarpur locality of Odisha’s Cuttack district.
The six arrested were identified as Brahmananda Rout alias Chiku from Sana Keshpur under Tangi police limits in Cuttack district, Santosh Kumar Behera from Ganjam district, Udaya Kumar Bhoi alias Uda from Kandarpur, Rama Chandra Sahoo alias Babu from Ganjam, Hemananda Modi alias Pappu from Keonjhar district and Sheikh Ilias alias Sheikh Baba from Gamhadia locality, a police source said.
Police have seized two gold bangles, a few silver ornaments, three live bullets and seven mobile phones from the possession of the accused. Key accused Mangu was encountered by the team at a place under Sadar police limits in this city. He had formed a gang to carry out several criminal activities.
The accused will be forwarded to court, Cuttack DCP Pinak Mishra said in a press conference.
Worth mentioning, Mangu is a resident of Bhanpur under Sadar police limits. He has been admitted to SCB Medical College and Hospital in Cuttack as he sustained bullet injuries on his left leg.
Mangu is an active member of the Tapu gang and is the prime accused in the dacoity case. The history-sheeter is involved in several other criminal cases including eight dacoity and illegal arms trade.
On September 6, Mangu and his accomplices had gun attacked a jeweller named Bikash Patra and later looted gold ornaments worth around Rs 5 lakh and cash of Rs 25,000 from him at Mattagajapur.
