The Special Investigation Team (SIT) today deposited the weapons in a local court here, which were used during an anti-Maoist operation in Kurtamgarh in Odisha’s tribal-dominated Kandhamal district where five people were gunned down.
According to reports, the SIT deposited 15 guns of SOG jawans, over 30 empty cartridges and clothes of deceased before the Baliguda Sub Divisional Judicial Magistrate (SDJM) court today.
During the course of the investigation, the probe team had produced two eyewitnesses before the Baliguda SDJM court to record their statements.
The probe team had sought the court permission yesterday to deposit the evidence collected from the firing spot.
“The SIT of HRPC has been camping in the area since July 17. We visited the spot and recorded the statement of various people. Two ballistic experts from the State Forensic Science Laboratory (SFSL) were also assisting in the case as people have died in firing,” said Gurudas Kundu, SIT member.
According to sources, the weapons, cartridges and other things collected from the spot will be sent to SFSL for forensic examination.
It may be mentioned here that five villagers, including two women and a two-year-old child, from Gumudumaha were killed during an anti-Maoist operation near Kurtamgarh in Kandhamal district on Sunday night.
