Kavita Krishnamurthy to be conferred with Prafulla Kar Samman

Bhubaneswar: Bollywood’s renowned playback singer Kavita Krishnamurthy will be awarded the prestigious Prafulla Kar Samman this year on the 79th birth anniversary celebrations of the legendary Odia musician.

Instituted by Prafulla Kar Foundation, this honour is being conferred upon Krishnamurthy for her outstanding achievement in the field of music and for lending voice to popular compositions of Kar, besides being a part of Odia music industry.

The award carries a cash reward of Rs 1 lakh, a citation and a shawl. The previous recipients of this award are late Akshaya Mohanty, Shantanu Mohapatra, Pandit Raghunath Panigrahi, Pranab Patnaik, Chitta Jena, Bani Jayaram, Kumkum Mohanty, Anup Jalota and Anuradha Paudwal.

Eminent singer Anuradha Paudwal was awarded the Prafulla Kar Samman in 2016.

The two-day award giving ceremony will be held on February 15 and 16 at Rabindra Mandap in Bhubaneswar at 6:15 pm. Prominent writer and chairperson of the foundation Dash Benhur has requested guests to attend the event in large numbers.

The award ceremony will be followed by a musical programme, ‘Kamal Desh Rajkumar’, where Krishnamuthy will perform accompanied by singer Sarika Singh from Mumbai and Mahaprasad Kar, son of Prafulla Kar. The following day will witness an array of performances by singers like Pranab Kishor Pattnaik, Chitta Jena, Dukhishyam Tripathy, Mahaprasad Kar, Bhiebhu Kishor, Nazia Alan, Chhanda, Adyasha and Ananya.
