Keep Covid hospitals ready in 10 days: Odisha CM to officials

Bhubaneswar: While reviewing Covid preparation of the Odisha government amid rising cases of Omicron variant, Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik directed officials to keep dedicated Covid hospitals in the State ready in next 10 days.

During a virtual review meeting with officials of different departments and District Collectors, Patnaik asked them to make beds and ICU beds at government as well as private Covid hospitals available in the stipulate day.

As per a statement issued by the Chief Minister’s Office (CMO), Patnaik said the number of beds and ICU beds at the Covid hospitals equivalent to that of the second wave should be made available for the infectees.

Also, the Chief Minister suggested the officials to work on a campaign mode to achieve the Covid vaccination target, adding that 15-18 age group children must get priority.

He suggested imposing restrictions to prevent spread of the Covid while keeping in mind people’s livelihood are not affected.

Patnaik directed Chief Secretary SC Mahapatra, who was present in the meeting, to review the implementation of decisions taken earlier.

Senior officials were tasked with providing oxygen management, information campaigns, training modules, etc. during the last wave. The Chief Minister suggested that the various monitoring groups and district-level monitoring systems be restored. “As the virus is likely to spread rapidly in the country, it is imperative that all measures be taken immediately,” he said.

Among others, Additional Chief Secretary of Health and Family Welfare Department, RK Sharma; DGP Sunil Bansal, 5T Secretary VK Pandian and senior officials were present in the meeting.

Following reduction in Covid cases earlier, the State government had closed several temporary Covid centres in the State. However, amid the recent surge in coronavirus cases in the State, the government has kept itself ready to fight against the coronavirus disease.

In the last 24 hours, as many as 680 more persons, including 119 children below 18 years of age, tested positive for COVID-19 in Odisha during the last 24 hours.

The Test Positivity Rate (TPR) in the state, which was below 1% for the last couple of months, reached 1.31%.
